Data from Points Path reveals that summer 2026 airfare has increased by 14.8% compared to summer 2025, with business class and first-class fares rising by 15.7% and 17.9%, respectively.

International Flight Price Situation

The outlook may be even bleaker for travelers planning international flights, depending on their destinations. In the coming months, average airfare to London has risen by over 30% compared to last year, according to search data from Kayak. Additionally, other European destinations, from Amsterdam to Dublin and Paris, have seen price hikes of at least 20%.

A small tip from TPG: consider Lisbon, where airfare has actually decreased slightly compared to last year, according to Kayak data. In recent years, airlines have added numerous flights to Portugal.

Rising Additional Fees

These ticket prices do not yet account for rapidly increasing additional fees. In the past week, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and JetBlue have raised checked baggage fees by 20% or more — and many other airlines are likely to follow suit.

On Delta, United, and Southwest, baggage fees will start at $45 one-way. This means a family of four traveling round-trip could end up spending $360 just on baggage fees (though if they have a credit card with baggage fee waivers, their costs could drop significantly).

When Will Airfare Increases Stop?

Consumers now face tough decisions when booking flights: How high will prices go? How far in advance should they book? Is it crazy to book Thanksgiving flights in April? Making accurate predictions is nearly impossible right now, as many factors depend on the duration of conflicts in the Middle East.
