An American vlogger faced trouble in Spain with Volotea over misunderstanding boarding pass regulations. This article provides insights and useful information for Vietnamese travelers.

The Vlogger and Volotea Flight

It’s unfortunate that in this case, I find myself siding with a low-cost airline known for its annoying fees rather than defending a traveler. A popular vlogger encountered issues in Spain with Volotea when she failed to understand the baggage check process and airport fee structure.

The vlogger, known as Escape with Emily, shared her experience on YouTube regarding her flight from Oviedo, Spain to Paris, France on June 4, 2026. While she attempted to check in online, she did not receive a boarding pass. As a low-cost airline, Volotea requires passengers to print their boarding passes themselves.

Boarding Pass Regulations

Specifically, if you do not print your boarding pass and ask airport staff to do it for you, you might incur a fee of up to 30 Euros (approximately 800,000 VND). This is a common policy among budget airlines. After not receiving her boarding pass, the vlogger believed she had checked in correctly but was left without a pass.

When she approached Volotea's office to resolve the issue, despite being asked to stop filming, she continued to record the staff’s actions. The employees were patient and polite but insisted they could only assist her if she stopped filming. Ultimately, due to her lack of cooperation, the staff left the office.

Vlogger's Reaction

The vlogger concluded her video by stating, “This is what happens in a developing country. I really can’t believe this is happening in a European country.” Shortly after, she took to social media to complain that Volotea was uninterested in her issue and only focused on filming the staff.

She was also asked to share her perspective but was prompted to explain her filming of the employees without their consent. Her actions sparked considerable debate and criticism online.

Analysis of the Situation

While I cannot justify Volotea's fee policies, I fully support the staff's response in this situation. Filming others without their consent is unacceptable and may violate privacy laws in Spain and many European countries.

It seems the vlogger did not fully grasp the rules and policies of the budget airline she chose. If she encountered an issue, a more peaceful and respectful approach to resolving it would have been wiser. Clearly, the staff acted professionally and patiently with their customer.

Useful Information for Vietnamese Travelers

If you plan to visit Spain, be mindful of the baggage check and boarding pass regulations of low-cost airlines like Volotea or Ryanair. Generally, self-printing your boarding pass is widely enforced, and failing to follow the guidelines can lead to unnecessary complications.

For Vietnamese travelers, Spain requires a Schengen visa. You can apply for the visa at the Spanish Embassy in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. The best times to visit Spain are typically in the spring (April to June) or autumn (September to November) to avoid the heat and crowds of summer.

Airfare from Vietnam to Spain usually ranges from 15 million to 30 million VND depending on the time and provider. Be sure to choose wisely for a smooth and enjoyable trip.
