Join a 9-year-old's perspective on an unforgettable holiday at Frutt Mountain Resort in Switzerland, filled with thrilling skiing adventures.
Introducing Frutt Mountain Resort
Frutt Mountain Resort is one of the standout ski resorts operated by the Kempinski group, located in Kerns, Switzerland. Nestled in the Melchsee-Frutt area, it’s just a short distance from Lucerne and near the stunning Melchsee lake. This resort is the perfect destination for ski enthusiasts, especially in winter. Based on my family's experience, this trip was truly memorable, thanks to the breathtaking scenery and exceptional service at the resort.
Journey to the Resort
We visited Frutt Mountain Resort at the end of March. The snow had been falling for several days prior, creating ideal conditions for our skiing adventures. The journey to the resort is quite unique: during the winter months, you can't drive directly up to the resort but must park at the base of the mountain and take a cable car up. The cable car ticket costs 30 CHF for adults and 15 CHF for children, while kids under 5 ride for free.
Accommodations at the Resort
We stayed in a family room with four beds and a crib for our little cousin. Although it was a bit cozy, the room was very comfortable and well-equipped with a Nespresso coffee machine and complimentary chocolates. Notably, the resort offers more than just lodging; there are plenty of recreational facilities such as a heated indoor pool, a gym, and a fun automatic shoe polisher!
Skiing Experience
At first, stepping out of the car and seeing the ambulance and medical staff made me a little anxious. However, I learned that safety is the top priority when participating in winter sports. Over the course of four days, I took ski lessons with dedicated instructors. They were not overly protective like some instructors in the U.S., but they were fair — if you didn’t follow instructions, you would be asked to leave the class.

Dining at the Resort
We had all our breakfasts and dinners at the hotel. Although the menu wasn’t extensive, the food was delicious. The service staff was attentive, although the wait time for the main courses was a bit long, while we were always served a variety of tempting appetizers. The breakfast buffet, featuring options like pancakes, fresh fruit, and bread, was a significant plus for the resort.
Helpful Information for Vietnamese Travelers
When planning a trip to Switzerland, be mindful of the visa process. Vietnamese citizens will need to apply for a Schengen visa to enter, with processing times typically around 15 days. Flight tickets from Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi to Zurich usually range around 12-15 million VND (depending on booking time and airline).
Switzerland operates on GMT+1, so be sure to calculate your flight times to adjust easily upon arrival. Additionally, it’s wise to research some climate information to prepare suitable clothing, especially if traveling in winter and planning to ski.
Conclusion
Our trip to Frutt Mountain Resort was truly an unforgettable experience. Skiing in the Alps is something I want to do many more times in the future. I’m excited about our next trip with my family, and I might just bring my sister along to make it even more fun!
